 Hello, my name is Gib and I am a U.S. Chess Federation certified coach. I offer online classes to those who want to learn or improve their game. 

After years of playing on the competitive chess circuit, I changed my focus. I wanted to ensure future generations could understand and love the game that has played such a significant role in my life. My love of the game and my love of introducing people to the game allows me to be patient, analytical, and fueled by joy. 

I teach everything from basic movements and rules to advanced strategy. My coaching caters to the skill set of the student and adapts as the student advances.

 My first step is to evaluate you by playing a game of chess. I do this so that I can see where you are already strong and also where you need some guidance. If you are a brand new player I will start by teaching you the basics, and then we will start doing games at a rate that fits your skill level. I have been playing chess since the age of 12. In high school I started playing tournaments . After years of playing and competing I decided to start teaching.

I began my teaching career as a volunteer coach at local middle and high schools, and then shortly after started teaching private lessons. I decided to make chess coaching my career because I love playing and teaching chess, and I've been told that I'm a skilled but patient instructor. For many years I mainly worked with middle and high schoolers, but I started expanding my coaching of adults a few years ago. I have currently coached people between the ages of 5 and 93.
